The Philippines has a new queen, and her journey is filled with deep roots, unwavering resilience, and grand dreams. On May 2, 2026, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Bea Millan-Windorski from La Union was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2026, shining brighter than 49 other contenders. This victory isn't just hers—it's a celebration of Filipino pride on a global stage. Bea, a Filipino-American who grew up in the US, packed her life into balikbayan boxes to pursue her dreams back home. Let’s explore her inspiring story through 10 key facts that truly make her unforgettable.

A Milwaukee Girl with La Union Heart

Born in 2002 and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bea grew up far from the Philippines, yet her heritage was always close to her heart. Her maternal grandparents, Alfredo C. Millan and Marcela B. Millan, came from San Juan, San Fernando in La Union. They made the journey to the US, planting deep Filipino roots in her family. Now, while she proudly represents La Union, Bea calls Makati home, affectionately referring to herself as an "Elyucana in Makati"—a playful blend of her La Union (Elyu) heritage and Canadian influences mixed with the hustle of city life. This unique combination of an American upbringing and Filipino heritage makes her story both relatable and special.

Talents That Shine Beyond the Stage

Bea is more than just a beauty queen; she’s a dynamic force of talent. At Whitefish Bay High School, she was a standout on the varsity dance team, played the cello in the string orchestra, and held her own in debates. Outside of school, she honed her ballet skills at the Milwaukee Ballet School and studied cello at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. These experiences not only boosted her confidence in the performing arts but also sharpened her intellect—ideal preparation for her pageant journey. Her wide range of interests showcases how she transformed her passions into real strengths.

Academic Star with a Global Focus

Education is Bea's driving force. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with dual degrees in History and International Relations, focusing on US-ASEAN relations to connect her two worlds. She also became a member of the Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In a video for Miss Earth USA 2024, she expressed, "Education is incredibly important to me." That passion? It radiates through every step of her journey.

Breaking Records: Miss Earth USA 2024

Bea's pageant journey took off in 2024. Representing Wisconsin at Miss Earth USA, she trained under Alma Cabasal (Miss Philippines Earth Water 2013) and donned stunning gowns by LA-based Filipino designer Carl Andrada. At just 21, she made history as the first Filipino-American to win Miss Earth USA. Now that’s a remarkable achievement! And she didn’t stop there.

Miss Earth Water 2024: A Global Spotlight

Bea has made quite the entrance on the international stage, dazzling everyone at Miss Earth 2024 as the representative for the US. She emerged as a top contender and proudly claimed the Miss Earth Water 2024 title, while Australia's Jessica Lane took home the main crown. With her grace and intelligence, Bea truly turned heads, showing that she’s ready for the big leagues.

Champion for Climate Refugees

Bea is deeply passionate about our planet. Her advocacy, "Open Doors, Open Hearts," shines a light on the plight of climate refugees. She began working with refugee communities in Milwaukee when she was just 16. "I wanted to focus on an environmental advocacy pageant to promote this concern and amplify refugees' voices," she explained. It’s a personal mission for her, powerful and perfectly aligned with her intelligence and desire for real-world change.

Rallying for Change in the Philippines

Bea is all about action, not just words. She’s participated in rallies like the Trillion Peso March, which addresses flood control scandals. On Instagram, she shared: "Every peso misallocated, every flood control project with substandard materials is a livelihood impacted, a home lost, and a family displaced." She’s also collaborated with Panatang Luntian and the Environmentalists Stand Against Corruption Alliance. In the Philippines, she’s fully committed to fighting corruption and safeguarding the environment.

Government Experience That Sets Her Apart

Bea knows her way around the halls of power. After winning Miss Earth USA in January 2024, she completed a fellowship at the Philippine Embassy and an internship at the East-West Center in Washington, D.C. These experiences honed her policy skills. Following her Miss Earth journey, she relocated to the Philippines full-time, fueling her ambitions for the Miss Universe competition.

Voice for Immigrants Everywhere

Family is at the heart of her advocacy. On Mother's Day, Bea honored her immigrant grandmother by speaking out for families facing deportation. "My heart is with immigrant mothers and families... These are families like yours and mine who came seeking a better life," she expressed. She brought attention to heartbreaking cases, like US citizen children being deported alongside their mothers, including one who is battling cancer. Her powerful words serve as a reminder: immigrants are the backbone of our nations.

The Crown Moment That Sealed It All

Let’s rewind to coronation night—what a spectacle! Bea dazzled in a stunning ruched, beaded evening gown by Anthony Ramirez, topped off with the exquisite Jewelmer La Mer en Majesté crown. But it was her Q&A that truly captivated everyone. When asked why she believes in representing the often frustrating Philippines on a global stage, she opened her heart: "The Philippines is something I've been in love with my whole life. Growing up in a non-diverse part of the US, I identified as Filipina first. I packed my life into balikbayan boxes because I believe in the limitless potential of Filipinos. We need local opportunities so families don’t have to separate just to survive. If crowned, I’ll be a public servant for all."

Why Bea Inspires Us

Bea Millan-Windorski is more than just a queen—she’s a beacon of hope. From the classrooms of Milwaukee to the stages of Manila, she has woven her dual heritage into a powerful force for good. At just 23 (turning 24 soon), she has already made her mark in pageants, policy, and protests. As Miss Universe Philippines 2026, she’s set to take that passion to Miss Universe, advocating for refugees, immigrants, and a brighter future for the Philippines. Her victory reminds us that home is where your heart leads you, and potential knows no boundaries.

What’s next for Bea? The world stage is calling. Keep an eye on her journey—this is just the beginning!
