Inside Kim Kardashian’s Honest Take on Her Marriage to Kanye West: “I Had to Save Myself”

Kim Kardashian hot

Kim Kardashian has long been accustomed to making headlines — from her SKIMS billion-dollar empire to her reality television fame, she's always in the limelight. But on the October 15 Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper episode, Kim spoke more candidly than ever before about the intimate aspects of her life — her previous marriage to Kanye West, what ultimately convinced her to leave, and how she's healing and seeing people again.

The Reality of a "Toxic" Marriage

Kim, 44, defined her almost decade-long relationship with Kanye West — which produced four children — as ultimately "toxic" in the episode. She recalled that even though she mostly thinks about the good, she could no longer put off the negative impact it was having on her mental health.

"You wanna be super supportive," Kim said, looking back on Kanye's struggles with his mental health, including his diagnosis of bipolar disorder. "But it makes it really hard to continue on in a relationship that can be toxic."

Kim underscored that she attempted to keep things together for her children — North (12), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6). But eventually, remaining was worse than leaving.

Lamborghinis Gone Overnight: Living with an Unpredictable Partner

The most jarring revelation in the podcast was Kim telling us how Kanye's unpredictable behavior made itself felt in their daily lives. She spoke of coming home to discover all five Lamborghinis were gone — all surrendered by Kanye in a fit of rage.

"I'd be like, 'Where's all our cars?' And it would be like, 'Oh, he gave them away to all of his friends,'" Kim said. "I didn't know what I was gonna get when I woke up, and that's a really unsettling feeling.

Though she never spoke of him with ill will, the tone of weariness and worry in her tone was unmistakable. Kim's intention, she insisted, was always to maintain their household intact — but when her own health started to break down, she realized that it was time to place herself and her kids in priority.

Finding the Strength to Walk Away

Kim petitioned for divorce early in 2021, and the proceedings were completed in November 2022. Albeit heartbreakingly, she does not view her marriage as a failure.

"An over a decade relationship with four beautiful children is not a failure," she stated.

Kim clarified that after her mental well-being started faltering and she was no longer able to parent efficiently, she knew something needed to be done.

“I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone,” she said. “When everyone’s older, they’ll be able to understand and see that.”

Dating Again & Daughter North’s Surprising Comments

Since her split with Kanye, Kim has only had one public relationship — with comedian Pete Davidson, from late 2021 to mid-2022. But according to her, things have been pretty quiet on the dating front.

Her daughter North, however, has other plans.

“You need to have a boyfriend now,” North recently told her, adding, “You’re getting too old and no one is gonna deal with this.” Kim laughed, recalling the moment, but said it’s something her daughter “says all the time.”

As for her own mindset around dating, Kim says she’s grown.

"When you age a little, you just don't put up with that s---," she bluntly said. "You don't have time."

What's Next for Kim

Kim is hardly slowing down. She's preparing for two huge premieres:

Season 7 of The Kardashians — available October 23 on Hulu — in which she will expose some of the most unfiltered moments of her life in the past year, including a chilling scene in which she reads aloud that she got a phone call from detectives regarding an alleged hit on her life.

All's Fair — her new legal drama series, debuting November 4, in which she co-stars alongside Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, and Sarah Paulson.

While balancing acting, motherhood, and fame, Kim is still working on her dream of becoming a lawyer. She has overcome everything from abuse to scandals in the public eye and behind closed doors, yet she keeps evolving and moving forward.

Final Thoughts

Kim Kardashian's Call Her Daddy interview wasn't glam or gossip. It was grit, growth, and what it truly means to put yourself first — even when the world is watching.

She didn't leave a marriage; she walked towards a version of herself that was better — one that's stronger, wiser, and prepared for whatever is next.
